Bucs’ offensive tackle depth Is becoming a concern

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have one of the league’s better starting tackle combinations in Tristan Wirfs and Luke Goedeke, but the depth behind them is becoming a legitimate concern as the preseason winds down. Benjamin Chukwuma has struggled at points throughout training camp, and Marshall Foerner had an especially difficult night against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Bucs also have veteran Justin Skule in the mix, but the overall picture behind the starters isn’t exactly reassuring.

Foerner’s struggles were particularly concerning because they directly affected the quarterback. He surrendered a sack to Felix Anudike-Uzomah that resulted in Jake Browning taking a major hit. Browning was temporarily removed from the game for evaluation before returning. Chukwuma’s earlier preseason struggles have already raised questions about whether he can be trusted with an extended role if an injury strikes the starting lineup. Skule, meanwhile, offers something the younger tackles don’t: he previously served as a swing tackle for Tampa Bay and started five games for the Buccaneers in 2024 as an injury replacement.

Tampa Bay’s offensive tackle depth chart currently lists Skule behind Wirfs on the left side and Chukwuma and Foerner behind Goedeke on the right. The group has experience, youth, and some intriguing physical tools, but it hasn’t consistently provided the stability the Bucs would want heading into a 17-game season. One preseason game remains for these players to change the conversation. Skule’s experience could work in his favor, while Chukwuma and Foerner will have another chance to show their struggles aren’t proof of what they can provide.
