Bryson DeChambeau’s comments about golf fans’ love for him prove he still hasn’t addressed big issue

Bryson DeChambeau has experienced a whirlwind 2026 season.

DeChambeau has won twice on LIV Golf, but has flattered to deceive in the majors, with three missed cuts and a T-14 finish to his name.

The 32-year-old will be out of contract with LIV Golf at the end of the current season, so it remains to be seen where he will be playing next year.

Bryson DeChambeau joined LIV Golf way back in June 2022, and he has since established himself as one of the biggest stars in the game.

The big concern for LIV is that his future is completely up in the air right now.

DeChambeau actually admitted that he would like to play on the PGA Tour again, while remaining a member of LIV Golf.

His popularity in the game means that he has huge leverage with both tours.

However, it is worth pointing out that the two-time US Open champion is definitely not as universally liked as he believes he is.

While speaking to The New York Post, DeChambeau claimed that every single golf fan in the world wants to see him play on the PGA Tour.

“Personally, I’d love to be able to play events on the PGA Tour, too. I think that’s best for golf. I’d love that,“ the two-time US Open winner said.

“It’s not an either/or mentality. It’s ‘can we do both?’ I think that’s where everybody wants to be.

“There isn’t a golf fan on the planet who doesn’t want to see me play a big Tour event, and I get that. I’d love to go play events that make sense, love to play team golf, and love to play wherever they’ll let me.”

The thing is, DeChambeau is actually a divisive character.

Sure, he has a huge fanbase of loyal fans, but he also has plenty of detractors.

While the vast majority of young fans love the excitement that DeChambeau brings to the game, many golf traditionalists are not on board with the way that he goes about things.

There are plenty of golf fans out there who believe that the LIV Golf star’s persona is a carefully concocted one.

The two-time US Open winner proved during The Open Championship that he is not the happy-go-lucky person that he portrays.

Sure, receiving a two-stroke penalty while in contention at Royal Birkdale would have been hard to swallow.

However, his actions in the aftermath of the rules controversy were quite simply unacceptable.

He argued with R&A officials for hours and in doing so, delayed the release of the third-round tee times until late on Friday night.

Bryson DeChambeau needs better advice

DeChambeau’s agent came out in defence of his client after the round, suggesting that he may well withdraw from the championship.

It seems to me that Bryson DeChambeau has surrounded himself with ‘yes men’ rather than people who will tell him some harsh truths.

He is constantly told how great he is, rather than people in his inner circle going against the grain and refusing to tell him only what he wants to hear.

The fact that he believes every single golf fan on the planet would want to see him play a PGA Tour event proves that he has a delusion of grandeur.

The sooner that he realizes he is not universally popular, the better it will be for him.

All golf fans really want to see from Bryson is for him to be himself and play the golf that we all know he is capable of producing.
