Browns HC Todd Monken will miss Lamar Jackson in 2026

· · 1 min read

Cleveland Browns head coach Todd Monken was highly acclaimed for his impact on Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson over the last few NFL seasons. Surely, when Jackson won the 2023 NFL MVP Award, Monken solidified himself as a quality offensive coordinator.

Still, Jackson posted career-high statistics with 1,206 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns in 2019 before he met Monken. Yet, Jackson threw for a total of 3,678 yards and 24 touchdown passes in 2023 under Monken. Obviously, neither Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson nor Shadeur Sanders possesses the accolades and skill of Jackson.

Ultimately, Jackson has proven that he doesn’t need a genius to be productive. However, an offensive coordinator who is precise would make things more expedient for the franchise. Under newly hired head coach Jesse Minter and offensive coordinator Declan Doyle, Jackson will have exponentially greater comfort and improved pocket presence. Two essentials that Monken failed to provide for the Ravens.

With Monken standing across the sideline from the Ravens this upcoming NFL season, an opportunity to assess what could’ve been will be emphatically granted. Monken will then realize that he might’ve missed an opportunity with the greatest quarterback he’s ever coached.
