Brown admits surprise over Bayern move

Nathaniel Brown admitted he did not expect Bayern Munich to sign him in this summer’s transfer window.

Brown completed a reported €50m move from Eintracht Frankfurt shortly after Germany’s early exit from the 2026 World Cup.

The 23-year-old made 75 appearances for Frankfurt, scoring seven goals and providing 12 assists while mainly operating as a left-back.

Brown has played as a left-back and a number 10 under Vincent Kompany at Bayern, making six appearances for the reigning Bundesliga champions.

He scored on his debut against Borussia Dortmund in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup, and he also netted for Germany at the World Cup, but Brown was surprised by Bayern’s interest when it arose.

“To be perfectly honest, I never thought Bayern would get in touch with me. And then it all happened so quickly,” Brown told Bayern’s club magazine, 51.

“When my agent told me about their interest, I said straight away: I don’t want to hear about anything else.

“I’m from Bavaria, I can stay in Germany and join the best team in the country – one of the biggest clubs in the world. 

“On top of that, there were the talks with the club and the coach. And my family and friends are all big Bayern fans too.

“So, there was no question about it. It was immediately clear to me that I wanted to join Bayern.”

Bayern are unbeaten so far in 2026-27, winning six of their seven games and scoring 25 goals in the process.

After the international break, Bayern face Augsburg in the Bundesliga before taking on Viking in the Champions League.
