Brooks Koepka confirms the real reason why he agreed to join TGL

Brooks Koepka will be joining TGL in 2027 as part of the brand new Motor City Golf Club team.

Koepka left the PGA Tour in order to join LIV Golf in June 2022.

However, the 36-year-old American decided to leave LIV at the end of 2025, and he made his PGA Tour return just a few weeks later.

Brooks Koepka actually struggled on the PGA Tour in 2026, managing to record just one top-10 finish all season long.

Koepka described his 2026 season as ‘pathetic’, and he will be hopeful of big improvements in 2027.

And the five-time major winner has decided to link up with TGL in 2027 in order to help give him something extra.

Koepka spoke to The Mirror ahead of the Irish Open this week at Trump International Golf Links in Doonbeg.

He was asked why he decided to join TGL ahead of the new 2027 season.

“I felt comfortable when I met with TGL,“ Koepka admitted.

“It’s something to do. It’s close by, and I think if you kind of look at it, the guys who have played well over the last little bit have played in it.

“I don’t know if there’s an advantage to it or not. But it seems like something fun, something I’m interested in. I think it will be a cool experience.“

Koepka has his old putter back in the bag at the Irish Open this week – the one that helped him win five major championships.

“You can’t really get a feel for it until the competition. But, everything feels like it’s going in the right direction,“ he said.

“I’m just trying to stay positive. I still believe I can go win any week, any day, any tournament. But when you’re putting like that and it’s holding you back, it’s very tough to win.

“You’ve just got to deal with it and move on and make some changes.“

If Koepka putts well this week at the Irish Open, he will almost certainly contend to win, such is the quality of his ball-striking.
