Broncos bring back familiar face for a tryout

The Denver Broncos brought in a familiar face for what the NFL’s transaction wire described as a “tryout” today.

Taylor Rapp, who signed with the Broncoson Aug. 20 and was released on Aug. 26, returned to the team’s facility on Friday. Denver coach Sean Payton explained after the team cut Rapp that the veteran safety had a personal situation at home that “took precedence.” Payton suggested Rapp would eventually return to the club.

“There’s a good chance, better than good chance [that he will return],” Payton said. “I know how he felt being here. So, sooner than later, that’s going to happen.”

If the Broncos do sign Rapp again, it wouldn’t be surprising if he initially joins the practice squad. That would give him time to get into football shape, and Denver could elevate him to the game-day roster up to three times, giving them more roster flexibility. The club’s active roster and practice squad are both currently full, so the Broncos would need to make a corresponding move to make room for Rapp if he does return.
