Bristol sign ex-Tigers lock Wells on three-month deal

Bristol Bears have signed former Leicester Tigers lock Harry Wells on a short-term deal.

The 32-year-old spent more than a decade with the Tigers and was part of the side that won the Premiership title at Twickenham in 2022 and last season’s Prem Rugby Cup.

The experienced forward, who can operate across the second row and back row, made 236 appearances for Leicester and has joined Bears from fourth-tier side Oundle on a three-month deal.

“With Josh Caulfield, Bill Mata and Khalik Kareem continuing their return from injury, it was important for us to bolster our back five options in the pack and Harry is an excellent fit.” said Bears director of rugby Pat Lam.

“He’s a tough, hard-working player who does the basics extremely well and his experience will be invaluable to the group over the next three months.”

Bristol’s recruitment of Wells came on the same day that National League 2 East side Oundle had also announced his signing.

Wells, who won one England cap against Canada in 2021, said: “I remain committed to Oundle and plan to return to the club following the conclusion of my time with the Bears.”
