Brandon Woodruff’s Milwaukee Brewers return gets major update ahead of postseason

After the Milwaukee Brewers clinched the NL Central with a 5-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday, their attention now turns toward getting ready for the postseason and entering October at full strength.

Brewers fans are still waiting for an update on pitcher Brandon Woodruff, and the latest news provides both some encouraging signs and reasons for concern.

Woodruff’s chances of pitching again this season remain uncertain, with MLB.com describing his 2026 return as a “low possibility.” However, he has not given up on making it back, recently extending his throwing distance to 105 feet.

“Has a ‘low possibility’ of potentially returning in 2026 but is giving it a try. Throwing at 105 feet and is scheduled to be evaluated for a return to the mound at the end of September,” according to MLB.com’s article.

Woodruff’s 2026 campaign has been limited to just nine starts because of a shoulder injury, and the Brewers pitcher remains on the 60 day injured list. He has not pitched since July 4, when he took the mound against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

A return this season remains unlikely for the 33-year-old, but with the Brewers preparing for the postseason, the veteran pitcher will continue doing everything he can to find a way back and help the team.

For now, there is still no clear indication of whether Woodruff will return to the mound for Milwaukee at any point in the 2026 season.
