The Boston Celtics need to find a center this offseason, but that center won’t be 2024 NBA Finals Champion Kristaps Porzingis. 

“Free agent center Kristaps Porzingis has agreed to a two-year, $40 million contract extension to return to the Golden State Warriors through 2027-28, with a player option in the second season, agent Jeff Schwartz of Excel Sports Management tells ESPN,” insider Shams Charania reported Monday night.

The Warriors were eligible to reach an extension with Porzingis ahead of the veteran center hitting the open market on Tuesday night. The deal, according to @BobbyMarks42, likely prohibits Golden State from using the full non-taxpayer mid-level exception. https://t.co/5KCyRL7nnE

Porzingis started last season on the Atlanta Hawks, but was traded to the Golden State Warriors before the deadline. 

He was only healthy for 15 games with Golden State, but averaged a respectable 16.1 points per game.

The rich deal likely takes Golden State out of contention for the possible super team assembly star forward Draymond Green said they were planning. 

The Warriors now can’t offer their $15M full mid-level exception to LeBron James after re-signing Porzingis, per @BobbyMarks42. Oh well. It was a good run.

The proposed “Big Four” was to feature Warriors mainstays Draymond Green and Steph Curry, free agent signee LeBron James, who was taking a $15 million deal, and NBA Champion Anthony Davis, who the Warriors would trade for (in fantasy land).
