Borno government approves N1.6B to clear outstanding scholarship balances

Dr Isa explained that the Governor Babagana Zulum administration chose to prioritise specialised healthcare tracks, technical vocational skills, and support for vulnerable children.

The comprehensive funding approval features a structured, multi-sector breakdown. They are:

• Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare: Full tuition and campus accommodation coverage for 272 specialised medical students.
• Al-Ansar University, Maiduguri: Absolute tuition clearance for 34 Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) undergraduates at the private institution.
• Nigerian Institute of Leather Science and Technology, Zaria: Complete academic fees for 60 Borno students enrolled in technical leather processing tracks.
• Nursing Stipend Node: Immediate release of six months’ worth of outstanding allowances for nursing students under the state’s medical scholarship pool.

Post-Conflict Shield for Children of CJTF Volunteers

A key element of the release is the funding set aside for the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) Volunteers Orphan Fund.

The state government has allocated a dedicated portion of the N1.6 billion to provide continuous, disruption-free education for 300 orphans whose parents lost their lives fighting counter-insurgency operations alongside the Nigerian Armed Forces.

Dr Isa described the beneficiaries as the state’s future doctors, engineers, and scientists whose specialised expertise will drive Borno’s long-term reconstruction and socio-economic recovery.

He confirmed that the scholarship board has already opened administrative processes to ensure the immediate, electronic transmission of funds directly to the partner institutions and the validated bank accounts of the student beneficiaries.
