Bold predictions in Fantasy Football Week 9

· · 4 min read

Fantasy football Week 9 presents several opportunities for these four players to make a major difference in fantasy lineups. Each has a favorable matchup that could lead to a big performance, creating some intriguing upside at quarterback and running back. Here are four bold predictions for the week.

Malik Willis finishes as a top-five fantasy QB

Willis gets one of the most appealing quarterback matchups on the Week 9 schedule. Detroit has struggled to contain opposing quarterbacks, allowing the most fantasy points to the position entering this matchup. That creates an opportunity for Willis to put together a much bigger performance than fantasy managers might expect.

The rushing ability is an especially important part of this prediction. Willis has the ability to create production with his legs rather than relying entirely on passing yards and touchdowns. That gives him another path to a big fantasy outing against a Lions defense that has struggled to limit explosive plays.

If Willis can take advantage of Detroit’s defensive weaknesses while adding some rushing production, a top-five finish is within reach. The matchup gives him legitimate upside to become one of the biggest fantasy surprises of Week 9.

Quinshon Judkins finishes as a top-seven RB and scores 2 TDs

Judkins has a favorable matchup against New Orleans, giving him an opportunity to deliver one of his best fantasy performances of the season. The Saints have been a vulnerable matchup for opposing running backs, making this an appealing spot for Cleveland to lean on its ground game.

A productive outing on the ground could put Judkins in position to finish among the top seven running backs for the week. The Browns will have an opportunity to take advantage of the matchup by getting him involved early and giving him opportunities to produce near the goal line.

Touchdowns could ultimately determine whether Judkins reaches this prediction, but the matchup gives him a strong opportunity to put together a complete fantasy performance. With a favorable opponent in front of him, Judkins is a running back worth watching closely in Week 9.

Matthew Stafford throws for the third-most yards of the week and scores 30 fantasy points

Stafford gets an excellent opportunity to put together a monster fantasy performance against Washington. The Commanders have allowed the fourth-most fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks, making this one of the more attractive matchups for a passing attack in Week 9.

Washington’s defensive struggles create an opportunity for Stafford to attack through the air and pile up passing yards. The Rams quarterback has the experience and ability to take advantage of a defense that has consistently given opposing quarterbacks opportunities to produce.

The prediction is especially bold because it calls for Stafford to reach 30 fantasy points while finishing among the top three quarterbacks in passing yards. However, the matchup provides a strong foundation for that type of performance. If the Rams can keep their passing attack aggressive throughout the game, Stafford could be in line for one of the biggest fantasy outings of the week.

Jonah Coleman finishes as a top-five RB and scores twice against Panthers

Coleman gets arguably one of the best running back matchups of the entire week against Carolina. The Panthers have struggled to stop opposing ground games, allowing the second-most fantasy points to running backs, along with 4.73 yards per carry and 10 rushing touchdowns.

That is an appealing setup for a Denver running back who is coming off an encouraging performance. Coleman has already shown that he can take advantage of an opportunity, and the matchup against Carolina gives him a chance to build on that production.

The Broncos should have opportunities to establish the running game, and Coleman could benefit if he continues to receive a significant workload. His involvement as a receiver also gives him another way to accumulate fantasy points beyond rushing production.

The boldest part of this prediction is the two-touchdown projection, but Carolina’s struggles against running backs make it easier to envision. If Coleman gets enough opportunities near the goal line, he could finish among the top five running backs in fantasy football for Week 9.
