The Toronto Blue Jays need their $500 million man to perform like one.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is having an interesting season with the AL East club.

Interesting does not necessarily mean good.

It’s hard to justify paying one player nearly $36 million per year, but Guerrero’s performance is certainly not at that level.

That’s why Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter listed Guerrero as one of the top 25 most overpaid players in baseball.

Guerrero’s season with Blue Jays is ‘disappointing’

“Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had eight home runs in 18 games during the postseason last year to help the Blue Jays reach the World Series, but he has hit just seven long balls in 486 plate appearances this year, including none at home in Toronto,” Reuter wrote.

The six-time All-Star’s power has been virtually nonexistent.

Guerrero’s homerless streak at Rogers Centre is one of the more strange statistics in the Majors.

“The Blue Jays made him the face of the franchise with a 14-year, $500 million extension that kicked in this year, and while he was named an All-Star for the sixth year in a row, his .356 slugging percentage has been one of baseball’s most disappointing stats,” Reuter added.

The Blue Jays are in the thick of the Wild Card race, but their chances of qualifying won’t be strong if Guerrero continues to struggle.
