Josh Allen wants to bring the Lombardi Trophy back to Western New York.

Allen may not be from Buffalo, but he has become Buffalo’s adopted son, and the Bills QB wants nothing more than to win a Super Bowl for the city.

“This city winning a Super Bowl is the last greatest sports story in all of the world,” Allen has said. “I really do believe that. I want to be the guy that does it.”

That’s powerful, and touching, and it probably is quite motivating for the rest of Allen’s teammates.

One guy thinks it’s silly, though, and that’s Eric Mangini.

Mangini joined the First Things First show and said this: 

“It’s a little bit self-aggrandizing isn’t it… Let’s take the first step of getting to the Super Bowl.”

Does he have a point, a little bit? Sure.

But come on now — of all the people to be making this point, Mangini is a ridiculous one.

He went 23-25 in three seasons as the Jets coach.

He then went 10-22 in less than two seasons in charge of the Cleveland Browns.

Mangini hasn’t been a head coach since, and for good reason.

Of all the people to knock Allen’s goals, Mangini is far from the most legitimate.

Yes, Allen has to get to a Super Bowl first. That doesn’t mean his goal is the wrong one. He’s proven he can win a lot of big games, but it hasn’t worked out for him in the biggest moments, whether his fault at times or not at all at other times.

Bills fans love Allen, in large part because he so fully embraces them.

Mangini, far from a winner, didn’t really need to chime in here at all.
