Benue: Gov Alia’s aide resigns after courtesy visit to SGF Akume

Governor Hyacinth Alia’s Special Assistant on Youths and Media Mobilisation, Atu Terver Joseph, has stepped down from his role in the Benue State Government.

In a resignation letter addressed to the Secretary to the Benue State Government, Joseph thanked the administration for the chance to serve, describing his tenure as both rewarding and enlightening.

“I am sincerely grateful for the opportunity to serve under your administration and the confidence reposed in me,” he stated, while also wishing Governor Alia success in his efforts to move the state forward.

Although Joseph did not disclose the reason behind his decision, political analysts have linked the move to his recent meeting with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, as political calculations ahead of the 2027 elections continue to gather momentum.

The resignation comes amid growing speculation over shifting alliances within Benue politics.

Recently, Joseph drew attention after posting on his verified Facebook page about a courtesy visit to Akume, whom he described as the “most powerful Benue man alive,” commending the SGF’s political influence and leadership qualities.

His remarks have sparked discussions about possible realignments within the state’s political landscape, particularly against the backdrop of reported disagreements between Governor Alia and Senator Akume.

Despite the speculation, neither Joseph nor government officials have officially connected his resignation to any political dispute or future political plans.
