Benue Assembly urges FG to arrest, prosecute Katsina-Ala attackers

The Benue State House of Assembly has called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts to secure vulnerable communities and ensure the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the recent attack on Sai Community in Mbajir Council Ward of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area.

The resolution was passed during Tuesday’s plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt Hon. Berger Alfred Emberga.

The lawmakers condemned the attack, allegedly carried out by suspected armed herders, describing it as barbaric and unacceptable.

The Assembly urged both the Federal Government and the Benue State Government to strengthen security operations in the affected communities to prevent further attacks and protect lives and property.

It also called on security agencies to ensure that those responsible for the killings are apprehended and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The Assembly’s resolution followed the attack on Sai Community, where 11 people were reportedly killed by suspected armed herders on Sunday, July 5, 2026.

The attack triggered fresh concerns over the worsening security situation in parts of Benue State and renewed calls for stronger measures to protect rural communities.

In a related resolution, the House directed the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to immediately provide relief materials, including food and non-food items, to victims of the attack.

The lawmakers said prompt humanitarian assistance was necessary to ease the suffering of affected residents while efforts continue to restore peace and normalcy in the area.
