Bengals QB Joe Burrow sent a little challenge to his defense

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has been all about urgency this offseason. 

That’s been a theme when Burrow is in front of microphones, seen on the practice field or when teammates talk about being around him. 

It would also explain why Burrow issued a mini-challenge of sorts when asked by Kay Adams if this defense is the best the Bengals have had since he joined the team. 

“I don’t know, we’ll find out,” Burrow said. “I think it’s certainly one of the most talented we’ve had. That doesn’t always equate to production and effectiveness. I think we have the guys that are putting in the work to go out and realize these opportunities…”

A pro athlete’s answer, no doubt, but with just enough of that urgency and motivational factor to spark the locker room a bit. 

Fitting, really, given Burrow’s approach as a leader this offseason. He was complimentary of the unit, though, giving shout-outs to new arrivals like Boye Mafe, while even name-dropping cornerback Jalen Davis, who is still battling for that starting inside role. 

Not that the Bengals defense needed any more pressure to get right, of course, but Burrow was happy to provide some nonetheless.
