Cincinnati Bengals guard Dalton Risner probably did not sleep well when quarterback Joe Burrow suffered a turf toe injury after getting sacked in the second quarter against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 2 last season.

It forced Burrow to sit out for three months, derailing the Bengals’ chances. They finished with a 6-11 record and missed the playoffs for the third straight year.

In an interview with FOX 19’s Jeremy Rauch, Risner admitted that he caused Burrow’s turf toe injury because he “did not perform” on the play. But Risner, who was then in his first season in Cincinnati, said he “took it on the chest” and kept moving forward. Now, he is feeling great and ready for redemption.

“I’m signed back on the biggest deal I’ve had in my NFL career. I’m a starting right guard for the Cincinnati Bengals. I just came from one of the best training camps I’ve had. I’m ready to have a helluva year, and we’re going to go win a Super Bowl,” said Risner.

The 31-year-old veteran signed a one-year, $3.25 million contract extension in March.

He started in 11 of his 14 appearances last season.

The 29-year-old Burrow has dealt with various injuries over the years, which many believe is an indictment of the Bengals’ offensive line. Simply put, Burrow needs better protection.

It will be up to Risner, guard Dylan Fairchild, center Ted Karras, and offensive tackles Orlando Brown Jr. and Amarius Mims to fulfill that role and help Cincinnati roar back as a legitimate contender in the AFC.

The Bengals will face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 1 on Sunday.
