Bengals don't know if they'll have Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins vs. Dolphins
The Cincinnati Bengals are taking a day-to-day approach with star wide receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins as far as their availability for the upcoming game at the Miami Dolphins on Oct. 11.
Bengals coach Zac Taylor wouldn’t say if Chase and Higgins will play against the Dolphins.
Chase remains in concussion protocol and has yet to clear it. The Enquirer saw Chase practicing on Oct. 9 when he was participating in red zone work. Same with Higgins. Chase was a limited participant in practice on Oct. 8.
To play in Miami, Chase would have to clear the NFL’s concussion protocol.
Higgins is dealing with a groin/neck injuries and didn’t practice on Oct. 8 or 9th. Taylor said “we’ll see” when asked specifically about Higgins’ chance to play this week.
Rookie wide receiver Colbie Young (knee) is questionable to play, also. He was a full participant in practice on Oct. 9th, which is typically a positive sign as far as player having a chance to play. The Bengals would benefit from getting Young back in the lineup if Chase or Higgins are unable to play.
Safety Bryan Cook is questionable to play. Cook said he’s become “frustrated” with his ankle injury but doesn’t want to come back and not be at full strength.
The Bengals are singularly focused on winning in Miami. The ensuing week, which is the Bengals’ bye, isn’t a factor in any of the decisions Taylor is making. Cincinnati is facing a winless Miami team, and Taylor said records aren’t to be considered when preparing this week.
“We watch the tape, and I see a lot of really good things that they’ve done,” Taylor said of the Dolphins. “It’s early in the season, too early to say here’s their record, here’s who they are.”
Riding a two-game losing skid with pressure mounting, the Bengals are hoping to beat the Dolphins and head into their bye week on a positive note.
