Bellingham and Nmecha ‘can still grow tremendously’ at Dortmund

Jobe Bellingham believes both he and Felix Nmecha “can still grow tremendously” as a partnership in the Borussia Dortmund midfield.

Bellingham joined Dortmund last summer and made 45 appearances across all competitions (not including the Club World Cup), providing three assists for his team-mates.

Nmecha, meanwhile, scored five goals and registered three assists in 42 matches in what was his third season since joining from Wolfsburg.

Among Dortmund midfielders last season, Nmecha and Bellingham led the way for successful passes (Nmecha – 1390, Bellingham – 1348), duels won (Nmecha – 162, Bellingham – 159) and interceptions (Bellingham – 47, Nmecha – 37).

And when Nmecha and Bellingham started together, Dortmund won 61.9% of their games (P21 W13 D4 L4), compared to a 54.8% win rate when at least one of the pairing did not start (P31 W17 D7 L7).

Dortmund failed to win any silverware last season, but Bellingham has backed himself and Nmecha to play a “major role” in 2026-27.

Dortmund’s first chance of silverware comes in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup, where they face Bayern Munich on August 22.

Their Bundesliga campaign starts a week later at home against Hamburger SV.

Nmecha has been linked with a big-money move away from BVB following a series of positive performances for Germany at the World Cup, with Manchester United rumoured to be interested in him.
