Beever-Jones ready to deliver after overcoming ‘toughest year’ at Chelsea

Aggie Beever-Jones is ready to “conquer” the new Women’s Super League season after overcoming her “toughest year” with injuries. 

Beever-Jones endured a stop-start 2025-26 campaign, suffering successive ankle injuries that limited her to just 17 league appearances for Chelsea. 

The 23-year-old was, however, rewarded for his impressive development with Chelsea when she put pen to paper on a new four-year contract earlier this month. 

During her time at Stamford Bridge, Beever-Jones has made 58 appearances in the WSL, scoring 24 times and winning the top-flight title twice, in 2023-24 and 2024-25. 

Now, the England international is keen to put her injury troubles behind her and is hopeful of helping Chelsea reclaim the WSL crown they failed to defend last season. 

“I look at my career at Chelsea so far, and I had quite a successful start,” Beever-Jones told BBC Sport.

“Last year, as a club, was probably our hardest season. We got one trophy, which wasn’t up to our standards.

“Personally, it was the toughest year with injuries. It put me on the sidelines quite a bit and I really struggled to get consistency back.

“I spent a lot of time this summer recovering to conquer this season, and I’m really delighted to have signed a new contract. It definitely felt like the right thing.”

Beever-Jones is one of the standout attacking options for Sonia Bompastor’s side, with Lauren James, Maika Hamano and summer signing Melvine Malard also set for key roles in 2026-27.

Chelsea are entering something of a transition period, though, having seen long-serving forward Sam Kerr return to former club Gotham FC as a free agent. 

Several other clubs in the division have strengthened, too, with champions Manchester City acquiring Beth Mead and Niamh Charles this summer. 

London City Lionesses have also had a sensational window, with two-time Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas headlining their incoming business, while Mapi Leon, Mary Earps and Kadidiatou Diani have also joined Eder Maestre’s side. 

Arsenal have also added quality to their squad with the acquisitions of Georgia Stanway, Geraldine Reuteler, Selina Cerci, Ona Batlle, Lisa Baum and Misa Rodriguez. 

Chelsea begin their WSL campaign at home to Aston Villa on September 5, and Beever-Jones believes the Blues’ “world-class” players can help them challenge for the title.

“There’s been a lot of noise around Chelsea. Other teams are signing, but you look at our squad, and I’d still say we have incredible, world-class players,” Beever-Jones added.

“We’ve brought in Katie McCabe, Melvine Malard, Manaka Matsukubo – world-class players who have already really impressed.

“We’re doing the work behind the scenes that doesn’t always get put out in the media. I’m confident within the team we share that common goal.

“I believe we’ll show that when we need to. I have every faith that it will be us that wins and that we’ll work hard.”
