Baylor football launched suspicion that injured quarterback DJ Lagway would return for Colorado. Now the Bears received welcoming news ahead of facing Deion Sanders and company.

ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel revealed the availability report from the Big 12 Wednesday. Lagway’s name landed on the probable list, meaning he’s cleared to go for Saturday.

That means Sanders and a Buffaloes defense that allowed 41 points last Saturday to Northwestern now must prepare for Lagway. Who brings his own dynamic dual-threat element that the Wildcats’ Aidan Chiles hit CU with in the 41-7 rout. Except Lagway brings an even higher ceiling and starred in the SEC before his transfer.

Baylor went 2-0 without Lagway in the lineup, as Nate Bennett took over. Bennett guided the Bears past Louisiana Tech and Prairie View A&M in Lagway’s absence.

Head coach Dave Aranda, however, sparked some buzz in Waco by reeling in the dual-threat Lagway via Florida during the offseason. Lagway, though, is 0-1 as the starter for Baylor.

He last appeared against Auburn during week one, which ended with a perplexing two-point conversion try instead of forcing overtime. Lagway played hobbled in that contest too, fighting through an ankle injury sustained during that game.

Baylor enters as a heavy 10.5-point favorite to beat the Buffaloes. But Baylor will hope for a different outcome from the last time both programs squared off. Then-Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders found LaJohntay Wester in the end zone on a desperation Hail Mary, tying the game up at 31-31 with no time left. Running back Micah Welch sealed the miracle win on a one-yard run in overtime.

Welch is the only one back from that past meeting of the aforementioned three. But now his defense must deal with Lagway.
