Bayern Munich’s Max Eberl says not to fret late scratch for Aleksandar Pavlović vs. Atlético Madrid

Bayern Munich supporters can breathe a little easier after Aleksandar Pavlović was unexpectedly withdrawn from the starting lineup shortly before kickoff against Atlético Madrid.

The midfielder had initially been named in Vincent Kompany’s starting XI, but a problem during the warm-ups forced Bayern to make a late change. Pavlović was scratched from the lineup, with the coaching staff understandably unwilling to take any unnecessary risks ahead of a demanding stretch of fixtures.

Following Bayern’s impressive 2-0 Champions League victory, sporting director Max Eberl provided a reassuring update on the 22-year-old’s condition.

“It’s nothing bad. Just a knock, a bit muscular, but nothing bad,” Eberl said (as captured by iMiaSanMia).

That is certainly encouraging news, particularly given how important Pavlović has become to Bayern’s midfield. His ability to dictate play, win possession, and provide balance makes him an important component of Kompany’s setup.

Naturally, Bayern will want to assess him further before making any decisions about his availability for the next match. For now, though, it sounds like the late withdrawal was precautionary rather than a major injury concern.
