Bayern coach Kompany told to rest: no training and media duties

· · 1 min read

Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany missed training and will also be absent from the pre-match news conference but plans to be back for Wednesday’s Champions League match against Arsenal.

Kompany has been plagued by a virus and hip problems and he watched Bayern’s 6-1 demolition of RB Leipzig on Saturday sitting in the dug-out, with assistant Aaron Danks giving the instructions.

“Vincent Kompany has been advised to take it easy due to a viral infection so will be absent from today’s training session and press conference,” Bayern said on Tuesday.

Danks oversaw training and will conduct the news conference, having also done the latter last season when Kompany was suspended for the first leg semi-final against eventual champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Bayern will be without influential winger Michael Olise for the visit of the Gunners and striker Harry Kane urged that others must seize the opportunity.

“When one of your key players is missing, you definitely feel the difference. But that’s exactly when other players have to step up and make the most of this opportunity,” Kane said. “Others can step in and, hopefully, do a really good job.”

Arsenal last won in Munich in 2013 but beat Bayern 3-1 in their last meeting almost a year ago in London.
