Luis Enrique has named his Paris Saint-Germain squad to face Aston Villa in Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup, with Liverpool targets Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye selected.

Barcola has been linked with a move to Liverpool throughout the summer, with reports suggesting that the player himself has given the green light to move to Merseyside.

However, it has been suggested that a deal remains difficult to complete, with PSG said to value Barcola at £145m (€170m), something Liverpool are not willing to fork out.

The 23-year-old scored 13 goals in 49 outings in 2025-26 (not including the Club World Cup), with only Ousmane Dembele (20) and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (19) finding the net more often for the European champions.

Barcola also ranked third in PSG’s ranks for dribbles attempted (156) and goal-ending carries (five), while only Kvaratskhelia (87) had more take-on ending carries than his 79.

With a transfer for Barcola taking up a lot of the discussions for Liverpool, rumours of Mbaye moving to Anfield have cooled somewhat, though it is believed that the Reds retain an interest in the Senegal international.

Mbaye made 32 appearances across all competitions in 2025-26, though only 11 were starts, scoring three goals and providing three assists for Luis Enrique’s side.

Talk of both Barcola and Mbaye has heightened in recent weeks, with PSG reportedly close to completing the signings of Ferran Torres from Barcelona and exciting Ajax attacker Mika Godts before the transfer window slams shut.

Maghnes Akliouche, who joined from Monaco for a reported €50m transfer fee last week, is another attacking addition PSG have made ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

Akliouche was also named in PSG’s squad to take on Villa in the Super Cup at Red Bull Arena, while Lucas Digne could be in line to make his second debut for the Parisiens against his previous employers.

PSG are looking to become just the fourth team to retain the European/UEFA Super Cup, after Ajax (1973, 1974), Milan (1989, 1990) and Real Madrid (2016, 2017).

This is PSG’s third Super Cup appearance, losing 9-2 on aggregate to Juventus in 1997 (1-6 home, 1-3 away) and beating Tottenham 4-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw last year.

It will also be just the third meeting between the two sides after the 2024-25 Champions League quarter-final, with PSG winning 3-1 at home and losing 2-3 away to progress 5-4 on aggregate.
