Barcelona have confirmed Roony Bardghji will undergo surgery in the coming days after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in a training session.

Bardghji, who was reportedly set to leave Barcelona on loan despite only joining the LaLiga giants last summer, is expected to spend the next six to seven months on the sidelines.

It is the second time the 20-year-old has suffered the same injury, having also sustained an ACL tear in 2023 when he was playing his football in Copenhagen.

During his first season at Barcelona, Bardghji made 28 appearances across all competitions, though only 10 were starts, scoring two goals as well as providing two assists.

“First-team player Roony Bardghji has suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee,” a statement read.

“The player will undergo surgery in the coming days.”

Hansi Flick revealed last week he had spoken to Bardghji about a potential loan move because he could not guarantee first-team minutes in 2026-27.

Barcelona have signed Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi this summer, and Bardghji had been left out of the Blaugrana’s recent friendlies against Nottingham Forest and Udinese in order to avoid injury before completing a loan move away.

It was reported that clubs across Europe, including in the Premier League, had been made aware of Bardghji’s availability, but his latest injury setback will see him remain in Spain to complete his rehabilitation.
