Barcelona superstar leads the charts in La Liga for key metric

Barcelona have made a perfect start to the new season, winning all three of their opening matches while scoring freely despite lacking a recognised striker.

Much of that attacking output has been driven by Raphinha, but Lamine Yamal, too, has showcased his quality when it comes to creating chances for his team.

Yamal was also one of the star performers in the recent win over Rayo Vallecano, as he scored a brilliant brace.

Yamal’s real impact this season, though, has been on the creative side of things.

According to Squawka, Lamine has created more chances than any other player in the Spanish top flight across the first three gameweeks of the season, registering 13 in total.

It is a remarkable figure for the teenager, and one that puts him clear of every other player in the competition.

Whether cutting inside from the right, delivering crosses or threading passes into dangerous areas, Lamine has been Barcelona’s most consistent creative outlet so far.

The stat is all the more impressive given that Lamine was still being eased back into action at the start of the season, having returned late to pre-season training following a demanding World Cup.

Putting the doubts to rest

Lamine’s early-season dominance also puts to bed the narrative that had surrounded him in the opening weeks of the campaign.

There had been suggestions that the teenager appeared unhappy at the start of the season, generating plenty of discussion among supporters and the media.

Lamine himself addressed the speculation after the Rayo Vallecano victory, insisting he was content at the club.

His performances have since done the talking far louder than any words could. Leading the entire league in chance creation while bagging a brace in the last win.

For Hansi Flick, having Lamine firing on all cylinders is the best possible news heading into a season in which Barcelona are chasing a third consecutive LaLiga title and harbouring genuine Champions League ambitions.
