Barcelona set to pocket €3-4 million as La Masia gem nears Mallorca move – report

The summer transfer window is entering its final stretch, with several important departures from FC Barcelona now being resolved.

While Marc Casado’s situation still remains open, another academy midfielder, Guille Fernandez is close to finalising his exit from the Catalan club.

Indeed, according to SPORT, the 18-year-old La Masia talent is poised to sign for La Liga 2 club RCD Mallorca on a permanent transfer.

The departure is not a sudden decision. It is the result of a plan that has taken shape over recent weeks.

After starting the pre-season with the first team, Guille has spent the last couple of weeks training separately from the squad, alongside other players who were no longer part of Hansi Flick’s plans.

The measure was designed to avoid injuries or other physical setbacks while their futures were being sorted out, following the unfortunate injury suffered by Roony Bardghji.

With the transfer deadline approaching, Guille’s situation required a definitive solution, and his agent, Jorge Mendes, has been hard at work in recent days to find the best possible outcome for his client. And, Mallorca has emerged his next destination.

According to the report, Mallorca will pay a transfer fee of around €3-4 million for the teenage midfielder.

Guille is expected to sign a long-term contract with Mallorca running until 2030 or 2031.

Barcelona retain 50%

As part of the agreement, Barcelona will retain 50% of the player’s economic rights.

This was an essential condition for the Blaugrana, who remain convinced of the midfielder’s potential and believe Mallorca can provide the right environment for him to develop and establish himself in professional football.

In addition to that, Barcelona have also reserved a buy-back option on Guille, giving the club an additional degree of control over the youngster’s future.

The buy-back option can be activated from the second year onward, following a formula similar to the one used in Jofre Torrents’ transfer to Ajax.

Provided the final paperwork is completed without complications, he will travel to Mallorca later today for his medical and to sign his new contract.
