Barcelona open door to versatile defender’s exit if the right offer arrives – report

Jules Kounde’s position at Barcelona could come under increasing scrutiny before the transfer window closes, with the French defender no longer guaranteed the prominent role he enjoyed in previous seasons.

According to Gerard Romero, Barcelona are prepared to listen to offers for Kounde if a suitable proposal arrives. 

For now, however, the club is not necessarily pushing for his departure, but his changing place in Hansi Flick’s plans could make a transfer a genuine possibility.

The most notable development is the evolution of Barcelona’s defensive hierarchy. 

Kounde has been a regular at right-back, but that position now belongs to Eric Garcia, whose rise has significantly altered the picture for the Frenchman.

Eric Garcia has established himself as Flick’s preferred option at right-back after making a major leap in his performances since last season.

That progress has reduced Kounde’s importance in the role. As reported before, Flick has already spoken to the former Sevilla defender during pre-season and explained the changes to his position within the squad.

Kounde has been informed that Garcia will be the first-choice right-back, while his own appearances are expected to come primarily in central defence rather than out wide.

Kounde faces major competition at centre-back

A return to central defence does not automatically guarantee Kounde more playing time. 

This is because Barcelona have several options available to Flick in the middle of the defence, creating another competitive battle for the French international.

As a result, Kounde could find himself moving from an established starter to a player who provides just depth across multiple positions.

His versatility remains an asset, but the reality of the new situation is that he would no longer be the automatic choice at right-back or guaranteed a place among Barcelona’s two starting centre-backs.

Barcelona ready to assess strong transfer offers

Kounde’s changing status has also brought the transfer market into focus.

Gerard Romero reports that Barcelona would be willing to consider a good offer for the defender, leaving his future open as the window approaches its final stages.

At this point, the Frenchman’s departure is far from certain, but Barcelona’s willingness to listen means his situation cannot be ignored.
