Barcelona monitors David Raum and Tyrick Mitchell for free transfers

Barcelona is monitoring David Raum and Tyrick Mitchell as potential additions when their contracts expire in 2027, according to SPORT in a report carried by Foot Mercato. The RB Leipzig and Crystal Palace left-backs are being assessed as possible free transfers.

That would make January relevant for discussions over a future agreement, while an arrival without a transfer fee would follow at the end of the season.

Raum’s availability is far from settled. The Bundesliga’s official website reported on September 5 that Leipzig planned to open talks over an extension later in the month, with sporting director Marcel Schäfer making clear that the club wanted to keep its captain.

The Germany international took over the armband in 2025. By early September, he had contributed seven goals and 30 assists in 145 competitive appearances for Leipzig, a record that shows the attacking output Barcelona would be considering from the position.

Mitchell would bring a different body of experience. The Palace academy graduate has established himself in English football, and the club’s official player profile credits him with 40 appearances during 2025-26.

He has also attracted reported interest from Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea. That could give Palace competition beyond Barcelona if it cannot agree an extension with the defender.

For Barcelona, the financial appeal would have to be weighed against wages, signing costs and the place available in the squad. A player arriving without a transfer fee still represents a substantial commitment, especially when an established international expects regular involvement.

Any move would also depend on how Barcelona wants to organize its left side, where Alejandro Balde, João Cancelo and Xavi Espart feature among its current options. Raum’s forward contribution and Mitchell’s Premier League experience offer different reasons to keep following their situations.
