Barcelona expected to return with fresh proposal for 26-year-old La Liga forward in coming weeks

Barcelona’s pursuit of Julian Alvarez appears to be entering a crucial phase, with the Catalan giants preparing a fresh attempt to sign the Argentine striker following his public admission that he wants to leave Atletico Madrid.

The forward has become Barcelona’s top transfer objective, and recent developments have only strengthened the club’s belief that a deal could eventually become possible. 

While Atletico Madrid have spent months insisting that their star attacker is not for sale, the situation has changed significantly after the player himself openly expressed his desire for a new challenge.

According to journalist Guillermo Rai, Barcelona are expected to return with a new proposal in the coming weeks as they continue working on one of the biggest transfer operations of the summer.

Barcelona maintain contact with Alvarez

Barcelona’s interest in Alvarez is far from new, as the club has been tracking the Argentine international for more than a year, with both Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco viewing him as an ideal addition to the squad.

Despite Atletico Madrid’s resistance, communication with the player’s camp reportedly remains active.

This latest update comes shortly after Alvarez made headlines by publicly discussing his future and admitting that he sees his future away from the Metropolitano.

“I try to be an honest person. I spoke with Atletico de Madrid, and I think a transfer is the best option. I want to fulfil my dream,” he said.

Those comments immediately increased speculation regarding a move to Barcelona, a club widely believed to be his preferred destination despite interest from several other European heavyweights.

So what now?

Although the player’s position is now clear, Atletico Madrid are still showing no signs of softening their stance.

The Madrid-based club has repeatedly pointed to Alvarez’s €500 million release clause whenever questions about a potential transfer arise. 

Until now, they have refused to engage in meaningful discussions regarding a move, particularly when Barcelona are involved.

In fact, Barcelona previously submitted a formal offer worth €100 million in an attempt to test Atletico’s resolve. However, that proposal reportedly received no response.

Even so, the circumstances surrounding the striker’s future are becoming increasingly difficult to manage.

When a player publicly requests a transfer and confirms that discussions have already taken place, maintaining the status quo becomes far more complicated. 

Even so, Atletico still hold the strongest contractual position, but the pressure surrounding the situation continues to grow.

Barcelona are aware of that reality and believe patience could eventually work in their favour.
