Barcelona 2026/27 pre-season schedule: Everything you need to know

Barcelona pre-season 2026 officially begins on Monday as Hansi Flick and his coaching staff welcome the first group of players back to the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper. 

While several first-team stars remain unavailable because of their involvement in the FIFA World Cup, preparations for the new campaign are finally set to begin with medical assessments before work on the training pitch starts 24 hours later.

With regards to the latest Barcelona news, Flick will place a strong emphasis on physical conditioning during the opening week, although the ball will remain central to every session. 

It is said that the available Barcelona players have already spent the past fortnight following personalised fitness programmes provided by the club, ensuring they return in good condition before the workload increases.

With numerous internationals still on holiday due to their World Cup commitments, Barcelona’s opening sessions will feature a significant number of La Masia prospects, giving several academy players opportunity to impress the German coach.

Barcelona pre-season schedule: Every important date

The opening stage of Barcelona pre-season training begins on July 13, when the available players report for their routine medical and physical examinations.

Full training under Hansi Flick will start on July 14, marking the beginning of an intensive first week focused on building fitness and preparing the squad for the challenges ahead.

Barcelona’s first pre-season fixture is scheduled for July 24, when the Blaugrana will face CE Europa behind closed doors at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper.

Attention will then turn to St. George’s Park on July 27, where Barcelona will continue their preparations. 

The training camp is also expected to coincide with the return of several senior internationals, including Ronald Araújo and Frenkie de Jong, following their post-World Cup breaks.

Notably, the club’s first public pre-season friendly arrives on July 30, with Barcelona travelling to Knighthead Park to take on Birmingham City.

Preparations will continue on August 3 with another behind-closed-doors fixture against Preston North End before the squad returns to Spain.

After that, Barcelona will take part in a triangular tournament from August 8, where they could face Udinese and Nottingham Forest, although official confirmation is still pending.

The traditional Joan Gamper Trophy is currently scheduled for August 19, but Barcelona have yet to announce their opponents.

Flick’s challenge as World Cup delays full squad reunion

Unlike previous summers, Hansi Flick’s Barcelona will spend much of pre-season without several key first-team players because of the expanded FIFA World Cup calendar.

That situation means academy graduates will play a much bigger role during the opening weeks, while the coaching staff also continue working alongside the sporting department on possible arrivals and departures during the Barcelona transfer window.

As more internationals gradually return, Flick will finally be able to work with a squad closer to the one he expects to rely on throughout the season.

Barcelona know when their 2026/27 La Liga campaign begins

While pre-season remains the immediate priority, Barcelona’s attention will gradually shift towards the start of the new La Liga season.

Because several Barcelona players featured in the latter stages of the FIFA World Cup, the club’s opening league fixture has been postponed. 

Instead of beginning their campaign on the opening weekend, the Blaugrana will kick off the 2026/27 La Liga season on August 23 with an away trip to Martinez Valero to face Elche.
