Baltimore Ravens waive QB Diego Pavia ahead of training camp

The Baltimore Ravens made a notable roster move days before training camp, waiving undrafted rookie quarterback Diego Pavia to create room on the 90-man roster for veteran center Ethan Pocic.

The move ends Pavia’s brief stay in Baltimore after the former Vanderbilt standout joined the Ravens as part of their offseason quarterback competition. Pavia arrived with name recognition after finishing second in the 2025 Heisman Trophy voting, but the numbers game changed once Baltimore officially added Pocic after he passed his physical.

Pocic’s arrival addressed one of the Ravens’ biggest roster questions. Baltimore needed another center option after Tyler Linderbaum left in free agency to sign with the Las Vegas Raiders. Pocic, a former Cleveland Browns starter, gives the Ravens a veteran candidate with extensive experience and a legitimate shot at the starting job.

That left Baltimore needing a roster spot, and Pavia became the casualty.

The Ravens entered the offseason with Lamar Jackson locked in as the franchise quarterback and Tyler Huntley back as an experienced backup. Pavia was competing for the No. 3 quarterback role during spring practices, but that battle now appears to be down to veteran Skylar Thompson and undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano.

A veteran quarterback who has started NFL games, Thompson helped his case with a strong minicamp, while Fagnano remains a developmental option after arriving from Connecticut. With Jackson and Huntley positioned at the top of the room, Baltimore may ultimately decide to carry only two quarterbacks on the 53-man roster, depending on roster needs elsewhere.
