Avengers' Worst Romance Of All Time Just Officially Began
Marvel introduces the most unexpected romance between Avengers. As is natural in any shared environment between superpowered colleagues, romance often blossoms among Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Two of the co-founding members of the Avengers are one of Marvel’s most iconic couples, though Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne have fallen in and out of love several times since they first assembled the Avengers. Other couples include the street-level heroes Hawkeye and Mockingbird, as well as the ultra-powerful Sersi and the Black Knight, and the volatile She-Hulk and Jack of Hearts. However, if there’s a definitive Avengers romance, it’s certainly Scarlet Witch and the Vision.
Just as naturally, the Avengers have had several uncomfortable relationships. Tony Stark and Wasp’s romance following Hank Pym’s departure felt like a forced plan to give both founding Avengers a new partner. Also, Tony Stark and She-Hulk’s brief relationship in the late 2010s drew criticism for its jarring lack of chemistry. And while it started off as a promising concept, Quicksilver and Crystal’s marriage was obstructed by constant toxicity and family interference. In the movies, Natasha Romanoff and Bruce Banner’s brief fling from Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Age of Ultron came out of nowhere and went just as quickly as it arrived.
The success of a superhero couple’s relationship lies in how organically it develops. Although there are exceptions, if it appears with no clear set-up, it’s highly unlikely to work.

Following the events of Marvel’s Armageddon, Captain Marvel has lost ninety percent of her power and her ability to fly. In The Avengers , Carol Danvers goes to Josie’s Bar in Hell’s Kitchen to drink her problems away, but Daredevil arrives to check in on her. Matt Murdock makes several solid points about how Carol should and shouldn’t cope with her new vulnerabilities, and out of the sudden, the two Avengers lean in for a kiss. Although they’re interrupted by Daredevil’s enhanced senses, The Avengers makes it very clear that Matt and Carol are interested in pursuing something special.
Daredevil awkwardly confesses to Captain Marvel that he has a certain addiction in his relationships, and she plays along.
A relationship between Captain Marvel and Daredevil would likely play with the concept of a godlike, cosmic powerhouse falling in love with a street-level Hell’s Kitchen vigilante. Now that Carol Danvers understands what it means to be hurt in battle and what it feels like to fight on the ground while stronger Avengers fight in the sky, there’s no better hero to help her move on than Matt Murdock. However, Matt and Carol have almost never interacted before, and Matt has done more harm than good to most of his previous partners. At her lowest point, Daredevil’s romantic track record seems more like a danger than a blessing.
Captain Marvel And Daredevil’s Relationship Seems Doomed To Fail
Carol Danvers And Matt Murdock Aren’t An Organic Match

Carol Danvers and Matt Murdock’s sudden romantic entanglement introduces a highly unbalanced dynamic that seems destined for collapse. Daredevil has proven incapable of maintaining a healthy relationship, having allowed his self-destructive guilt and double life as Daredevil to alienate and endanger his partners all these years. Captain Marvel is currently in a vulnerable mindset after the Pletetsk incident, meaning her romantic decisions aren’t exactly made with a cool head. Attempting to build a romantic foundation when both individuals are wrestling with personal struggles creates a toxic ground for codependency and instability.
Most importantly, Carol Danvers and Matt Murdock risk creating a dangerous layer of workplace drama that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes can’t afford to deal with at this moment. Workplace romances are already a delicate matter; add superpowers and the aftermath of a World War III-level event to the mix, and Captain Marvel and Daredevil have a recipe for chaos. Besides, Marvel’s new Avengers lineup is limited to a select few characters at the moment. Any drama between them can only push them closer to breaking apart for good at a key moment in the team’s history.
