Austin Hill continues to impress with 12th-place start at Sonoma

· · 1 min read

Austin Hill is continuing to impress behind the wheel of the No. 33 car for Richard Childress Racing in the NASCAR Cup Series. On Saturday, Hill qualified in 12th place for the Cup Series race at Sonoma Raceway. This comes after the Richard Childress Racing driver had a strong Friday and Saturday in San Diego as well.

Unfortunately for Hill, everything went downhill in Stage 2 in San Diego, causing a wreck that took out Shane van Gisbergen and Connor Zilisch. Still, Hill has been steadily improving in the Cup Series since he replaced the late Kyle Busch in the rebranded No. 33 car for Richard Childress Racing.

Hill will now roll off in 12th place for the Cup Series race at Sonoma, and a top-10 finish is not out of the question. The driver of the No. 33 car has the speed to run up front if he can stay mistake-free. After all, Hill outqualified his teammate, Austin Dillon, by almost 20 spots for Sunday’s event.
