At least 10 killed, houses razed in fresh Fulani-Kamuku clash in Niger

No fewer than 10 people have been killed and several houses set ablaze following a renewed clash between Fulani and Kamuku communities in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State.

The violence, which erupted on Tuesday in Mararraban Gwadaro and Tashan Bako villages, is believed to be a spillover of an earlier confrontation between the two groups a few weeks ago that claimed one life.

Residents described the latest attack as a reprisal, lamenting that women and children accounted for a significant number of the casualties.

They appealed to the government and security agencies to take urgent steps to end the recurring violence.

Confirming the incident, Chairman of Rafi Local Government Area, Ayuba Usman Katako, said investigations had commenced to identify and prosecute those behind the attacks.

He, however, did not disclose the exact casualty figure but said no responsible government would stand by while innocent citizens were being killed.

The assured that those found culpable would be brought to justice to serve as a deterrent.

Katako further added that security personnel had been deployed in large numbers to the affected communities to restore peace and protect lives and property.
