Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Free Download Officially Confirmed By Ubisoft
Ubisoft officially released one final update for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla way back in 2023, so we’re as surprised as anyone to see the game make a return more than three years later. And yet, here we are: the open-world Viking RPG, which also happens to be the best-selling game in the entire Assassin’s Creed series, is back.
In a surprise announcement, Ubisoft confirmed that the long-requested New Game+ will be added to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla on November 5 as part of a massive free update. The lack of New Game+ was always a huge point of contention for fans, given that Ubisoft neglected to include it in any of the game’s post-launch updates despite Valhalla getting two years of major support.
This brand-new mode will include “dedicated NG+ scaling”, so expect gear and enemies to adjust accordingly. The new mode will, of course, allow you to play through the story again without losing character progression from an earlier completed save. That means your skills and equipment will carry over so you can enjoy more of a challenge while immediately having your preferred loadout and playstyle set up.
The upcoming patch is also set to include:
- An optional progression mode where Gear, Runes, and Masteries all contribute to Eivor’s overall Power.
- New runes, achievements, a stash system, and new rewards, including a Master Assassin outfit inspired by Naoe’s look in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
- Mithril, a new resource to upgrade Divine Gear and strengthen runes
- Divine Gear quality for all items.
As someone who finished Assassin’s Creed Valhalla with 100 percent completion because it was lockdown, and I had literally nothing else to do, I can’t say I’m in a huge rush to go back to this one. Don’t get me wrong, I think Valhalla is a great game that gets bashed more than it deserves by hardcore Assassin’s Creed fans, but I don’t think there’s much more I could get out of it.
“The need to make this both ‘Assassin’s Creed game’ and ‘Ubisoft open world game’ also holds back Valhalla from reaching its potential,” reads the original Screen Rant review of the game. “Some of these issues are minor — why, exactly, are there so many poisonous snakes to be found in pots in England? – but others are very frustrating, such as how the player can only access some Abilities by exploring the map, rather than through levelling up. Helix credits also make a return for obligatory monetization of a single-player RPG, although the depth of its microtransactions isn’t available to see in the review build of the game.”
“Aside from the mysterious snake population, thankfully Valhalla’s England is well-realized, with more variation in landscape than England should really allow for. From grassy plains through to murky swamps and towns full of Roman ruins, Valhalla is gorgeous to behold at times. It may lack the variety of Odyssey’s Greece, but Valhalla more than makes up for it in quality.”
Thankfully, there’s plenty of new Assassin’s Creed on the way. Ubisoft also delivered an official update on the status of Assassin’s Creed Hexe, the upcoming title set during the 17th-century witch trials in Central Europe. While we still don’t know much, the game is expected to arrive in 2027, and “steady progress” is being made.
