Arsenal summer signing “optimistic” Greece can trouble Germany after Serbia win

Christos Tzolis will be hoping to continue his excellent international break when Greece face Germany in Augsburg this evening in the UEFA Nations League.

Tzolis’ goal was particularly welcome after three consecutive Arsenal appearances without a goal or assist.

Speaking after Greece’s win over Serbia, Tzolis told ProtoThema that tonight’s meeting with Germany will require a slightly different approach.

“Germany are a stronger side than Serbia, so we’ll approach the next game differently. But we’re optimistic. We always play with confidence, we have a lot of quality and we need to show it at every ground.”

The Arsenal winger also highlighted where Greece must improve if they are to get another positive result.

“We need to stay focused and not concede easy goals, and going forward we can create a lot of chances and need to be a little more clinical.”

There is certainly reason for confidence.

Tzolis has enjoyed an impressive few months since his £34 million move from Club Brugge. His performances during pre-season quickly caught the eye, while his two assists in Arsenal’s Community Shield victory over Manchester City offered an early indication of what he could bring to Mikel Arteta’s attack.

His latest goal for Greece provides another timely reminder of his attacking threat.

There would have been an added Arsenal element to tonight’s match had Kai Havertz been available for Germany.

However, Havertz suffered a muscular injury against the Netherlands on Thursday and has since left the German camp, ruling him out of the meeting with Tzolis and Greece.

That leaves Tzolis as Arsenal’s main interest in Augsburg tonight.

After helping Greece begin their Nations League campaign with an impressive comeback victory, another strong display against Germany would round off an excellent few days for the summer signing.

Can Tzolis carry his international form back to Arsenal when the Premier League resumes?
