Arsenal star Christos Tzolis expected to miss Greece’s clash with Germany through injury
Greece have suffered a significant injury blow ahead of their UEFA Nations League home game against Germany on Sunday.
Arsenal star Christos Tzolis was forced off just 18 minutes into their 2-2 draw with the Netherlands on Thursday, and reports in the Greek media now suggest that the winger is set to miss Sunday’s game against Germany as a result.
“I think it was a scene that everyone saw, those who were nearby. I told him to get out, because I suspected that he wouldn’t have done that if he hadn’t felt something. We don’t know how much damage was done today, but I hoped it was just a twitch, something temporary,” Greece coach Ivan Jovanovic told Sport24 (via The Standard) about Tzolis’ substitution against the Netherlands.
“Certainly first as a coach I have to take the decision to replace the player, because it was a muscular issue. It wasn’t a problem, like an ankle or something else. But when it’s muscular issues, that, along with the doctors, with the immediate information I have, was the reason I asked for it to come out immediately.”
Germany will be hoping to avenge their 0-1 defeat to Greece in the reverse fixture when the two teams meet in Thessaloniki on Sunday.
