Arsenal monitoring ‘fearless’ Liverpool player despite slim chances of signing him

Arsenal are reportedly monitoring Liverpool youngster Rio Ngumoha as Mikel Arteta continues to assess how his attacking options could evolve over the coming months.

The Gunners strengthened their forward line during the summer by bringing in Christos Tzolis, but departures elsewhere have left the squad looking a little lighter.

Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus both moved on late in the window, while Arsenal were unable to land some of their other attacking targets.

That has seemingly prompted them to keep a close eye on one of Liverpool’s most exciting young talents.

Daniel Sturridge has described Ngumoha as a ‘fearless‘ player.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, via TEAMtalk, Arsenal are tracking Ngumoha’s development and could explore a move if his playing time begins to decrease at Anfield.

The 18-year-old has already shown why there is so much excitement around him.

He has broken into Liverpool’s senior setup and featured in important matches, including European competition, while continuing to compete for minutes with more established attackers.

That competition is likely to be central to Arsenal’s thinking. Liverpool have several strong options across the front line, meaning Ngumoha’s pathway into the starting XI is far from guaranteed.

Even so, Liverpool clearly view him as an important prospect. Reports have also suggested the club have been working to secure his long-term future, which would make any Arsenal approach extremely difficult.

From Arsenal’s point of view, the interest makes plenty of sense.

Ngumoha is young, direct and comfortable taking defenders on, which is exactly the profile modern top clubs are constantly looking for. He also has the potential to grow into a long-term first-team player rather than simply arriving as a squad option.

But this is not a straightforward opportunity.

Liverpool have already given him senior minutes and appear to see him as part of their future.

Unless he becomes frustrated by a lack of playing time, there is little incentive for either the player or the club to push for a move.

Arsenal’s interest therefore feels more like forward planning than an imminent transfer battle.

Still, situations can change quickly in football. If Ngumoha finds himself stuck behind several senior players and begins looking for a clearer route into the first team, Arsenal could be well placed to act.

For now, though, Liverpool remain firmly in control of the situation.
