Arsenal bring in Tzolis as Trossard replacement

Arsenal have signed Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge for a reported fee of £34m (€40m).

Tzolis is seen as Mikel Arteta’s replacement for Leandro Trossard, who joined Besiktas earlier this month, while Gabriel Martinelli has also been linked with a move away from the Premier League champions.

The 24-year-old had an impressive 2025-26 campaign for Brugge, scoring 22 goals and providing 29 assists across all competitions as they won the Belgium Pro League title.

Across Europe’s top 10 leagues, Tzolis recorded the most assists of any player in league matches last season (23).

He also recorded the most direct goal contributions (40) in the Belgian top-flight last term, while also completing the most successful crosses (97).

Tzolis, who has signed a long-term deal at Arsenal, has some Premier League experience, having featured 14 times for Norwich City in the 2021-22 season, when the Canaries were relegated.

“It’s absolutely amazing to sign for such a big club, the champions of England. I’m very proud to be part of this team for the next season,” Tzolis told the club website.

“When my agent was saying maybe it was a possibility, I was already excited. Afterwards it was getting more serious and now I’m here.

“I had a nice conversation [with Arteta]. It was around an hour. We talked about everything, about the club, about myself, about his plans, about me of course, about the team. It was only positive things.

“I’m a direct player, I go for goals or assists. That’s my point of view as an attacker, as a winger.

“I’m always hungry to score or to give the final pass to my teammates. And I can say I work hard for the team, also in the defensive part.”

Tzolis has already joined Arsenal’s pre-season training camp ahead of friendlies against Girona, Real Betis, Borussia Dortmund and Como.

The Gunners face Manchester City in the Community Shield on August 16, before kicking off their Premier League title defence against Coventry City five days later.
