Arizona State starter to miss 'multiple weeks' with leg injury
The hits keep coming for the Arizona State football team.
The latest is a right leg injury that will sideline starting strong safety Lyrik Rawls for “multiple weeks,” according to Sun Devils head coach Kenny Dillingham, who announced it after practice Wednesday, Oct. 7.
He will likely be replaced in the lineup by senior Montana Warren, who has seen significant playing time.
Rawls, a senior in his first year with the program after transferring from Kansas, was injured in the 55-19 loss to Baylor on Oct. 3. He started the first four games and had 11 tackles, two breakups, and one interception.
It is just the latest injury in a long line of significant ones. Defensive lineman MyKeil Gardner, linebacker Zyrus Ziaseu, and defensive back Nigel Pringle were lost for the season before the first game. Starting tight end Khamari Anderson, who was coming back from a broken leg sustained in April, suffered a season-ending injury in the win over Kansas in London.
Starting right guard Wade Helton was injured in the Texas A&M game and has missed the last two games. He returned to practice this week, but it is not yet clear whether he will be ready to play when the Sun Devils host Hawaii on Oct. 10 at Mountain America Stadium.
