Arizona Cardinals training camp: OL Isaiah Adams holding onto starting job

The Arizona Cardinals drafted guard Chase Bisontis in the second round this year, and most believe he will end up as the starting right guard, replacing Isaiah Adams, who started 11 games last season and the final five of 2024, his rookie season.

However, Adams has been steadily maintaining the starting job. He took all the first-team snaps in the offseason program and has been with the starters in training camp almost the entire time.

Head coach Mike LaFleur has been impressed by Adams’ progress so far.

 “I think he’s a strong and sturdy dude on the inside, and you think about his journey from Canada and Illinois and all the things, getting kind of that next-level education of football a little bit later than some of these other guys, so you knew there was a ‘developmental’ aspect of him when he was coming out,” he said on Wednesday.

He said he saw good plays from Adams on tape from last season, but the question was whether that could be consistently replicated.

“What I would say is from OTAs (practice) one to now, I can’t say that he’s ever taken a step backwards,” he explained. “I think every single day has been a learning opportunity for him. And I think he’s just continued to get a little bit better every single day.”

The question is whether that will be enough to fend off Bisontis, who was projected to be drafted as high as the middle of the first round? Bisontis is inevitable at some point, but if Adams can hold him off into the start of the season, that would be a huge upset and would mean Adams has made big improvements.

It is something to continue to watch in training camp and the preseason.
