APC primaries: Kalu, Onyejeocha, others secure Reps tickets in Abia

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, and former Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, have secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) tickets for the 2027 House of Representatives elections in Abia State.

The duo emerged unopposed during the APC House of Representatives primary elections conducted across the state’s eight federal constituencies.

Kalu was returned as the party’s candidate for Bende Federal Constituency, while Onyejeocha secured the APC ticket for Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency.

Announcing the results on Saturday at the APC State Secretariat in Umuahia, Chairman of the Abia State National Assembly Primary Election Committee, Barrister Erasmus Cishak, described the exercise as peaceful, transparent, and credible.

According to him, the primaries recorded active participation by party members and stakeholders across the state.

Other candidates who emerged from the primaries include Hon. Chris Nkwonta for Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency and Hon. Uzor Azubuike for Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency.

Former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Chinedum Orji, also emerged as the APC candidate for Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency.

Similarly, Hon. Uzoma Theodore Uka secured the ticket for Isiala Ngwa North/Isiala Ngwa South Federal Constituency, while Hon. Udo Alozie emerged candidate for Obingwa/Osisioma/Ugwunagbo Federal Constituency.

Hon. Ikenna Nicholas also clinched the APC ticket for Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency.

Barrister Cishak commended party members for their orderly conduct during the exercise, stating that the committee adhered strictly to fairness, transparency, and internal democracy throughout the primaries.

The outcome of the primaries is expected to strengthen the APC’s preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections in Abia State.
