Angel Reese Roasted For Her Barbie At FIBA World Cup, Fans Claim ‘No One Buying That In USA’

Angel Reese is part of a 12-player roster representing Team USA at this month’s 2026 FIBA World Cup in Berlin, Germany. While Team USA hopes to remain focused as it prepares for the tournament’s first game against China on Friday, fans accused Reese of actively promoting her Barbie on the global platform. 

Reese is making her FIBA Women’s World Cup debut with Team USA at the 2026 Berlin tournament. Defending champion the United States commences play on September 4, 2026. Besides Reese, Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers will also make their competitive debut for the U.S. senior national team, marking a generational shift for Team USA. 

Reese wants to take advantage of this platform to inspire young girls around the world about what is possible, having gone from being a Barbie to playing on the biggest stage in international basketball. 

Recently, Reese celebrated the debut of her own Barbie doll at the 2026 FIBA World Cup. The “Bayou Barbie” nickname she acquired while attending Louisiana State University was turned into a real Barbie doll, extending her brand beyond the basketball court and establishing her as a prominent role model for young girls, especially young Black girls. In late July 2026, Mattel announced that the most recent athlete to receive a Barbie Signature doll is Reese.

In a recent interview with FIBA, she talked about what it meant for her young fans and how she recognizes the importance of such representation. 

FIBA shared the piece ahead of the Friday matchup via its X (formerly Twitter) account with one of Reese’s quotes in the caption: “I’m sure some people here might have a couple of Barbies, so I’m really excited to be able to take it worldwide, everywhere we go, and continue to inspire so many young girls.”

It didn’t take long for Reese critics to swarm the comments to slam the Atlanta Dream star. 

One user commented, “No one buying that (expletive) in the United States. No one gonna buy that stuff overseas.”

Referring to the video posted by FIBA on social media where several of the Team USA members can be seen dancing, including Reese and Bueckers, another X user sarcastically asked, “Inspire them to what?? Twerk??”

Another user doubled down on it, adding, “Not a single decent parent would ever let their young daughter be ‘inspired’ by Angel Reese.”

A fourth user quipped, “Remember people only have Barbie’s that look like them so no, no one has your Barbie.”

One user even made a bold claim saying, “Someone on her social team brought 20 Barbies to Germany, to pass out to kids in the crowd, to hold up like they’ve had them all along — so Angel can sign them for creator content.”

After going viral last week for her on-court trash talk, one Reese critic said, “She is the least Barbie like Barbie in the history of Barbies. Barbie doesnt call other women bald and scream obscenities. @Barbie do better.”

Throwing shade at the Dream star’s on-court rough play, one user asked, “How many players will she be allowed to maul?”

Amid the online criticism, Reese will now have to let her play speak for itself. Even though she has worn the national team jersey in the past, the World Cup offers her a chance to compete for one of the most prestigious prizes in sports and marks another significant milestone in her career.

And the Dream star is “looking forward to it. We have a great group, and we’re looking to come here to win.”
