Andrew Child Is Ready To Take Over The Reacher Franchise, And This Reacher Book Proves It

· · 3 min read

Since 1997, Lee Child has been the mind behind the Jack Reacher franchise, and fans of the books, movies, and TV show are sorry to see him go. Now that Lee Child has quit Reacher, passing the baton to his brother, Andrew Child, the future of the beloved novel series remains uncertain. However, Lee Child wouldn’t leave the iconic character of Reacher and his adventures of espionage, action, and mystery to someone who couldn’t live up to the Jack Reacher legacy.

Andrew Child is a fantastic author in his own right, and while it’s nerve-racking to contemplate a Reacher book that isn’t penned by Lee Child, this change doesn’t have to be the end of Reacher as we know it. The franchise has evolved a lot since the debut novel, Killing Floor, first hit shelves. Prime Video’s screen adaptation is an enormous success, with Reacher season 5 planned to drop in 2027. As Jack Reacher grows in popularity with audiences discovering the books through the TV show, Andrew Child faces a lot of pressure.

However, there’s plenty of evidence to prove that Andrew Child won’t disappoint us. The latest Reacher book, Chain Reaction, was co-authored by Lee and Andrew Child, and it’s fair to say that the thriller lives up to the hype. Though it’s only been a few weeks since it was published on October 20th, 2026, longtime readers are falling in love with Jack Reacher’s newest investigation.

Chain Reaction’s Success Proves Reacher Is In Safe Hands With Andrew Child

Currently holding a 4.60-star rating on Goodreads, Chain Reaction is one of the highest-rated Jack Reacher novels in years. Following Reacher in a fast-paced investigation that grapples with many contemporary themes, Chain Reaction is clearly a product of Lee and Andrew Child in equal measure, as Andrew’s contributions to the series are always boundary-pushing. In the book, Reacher is contacted by General Susan Turner, an old friend, to investigate the disappearance of one of her team members.

However, Chain Reaction‘s story only starts there. As Reacher strikes out to get to the bottom of General Turner’s mystery, he finds himself in a small town in Colorado where data centers and solar farms are going up and changing the community forever. Touching upon relevant social issues and the way technology is changing the shape of our world, Chain Reaction never sacrifices an ounce of the classic Jack Reacher action throughout the story.

Andrew Child has been co-writing the Jack Reacher books with Lee Child since 2020, when the pair published The Sentinel as a duo. All of these works have continued to raise the bar for the series, with Chain Reaction‘s positive reception cementing Andrew Child’s capability. Lee and Andrew Child discuss Reacher as a character with fans and media outlets all the time, and it’s obvious that the writers have a clear concept of the man and how he’ll react to new installments of his adventures that will translate to the coming books.

Andrew Child Will Bring The Reacher Franchise Into The Future

Part of the reason readers are responding so well to Chain Reaction, and many of the works that Andrew Child had a hand in writing, is because they’re committed to bringing Reacher into the 21st-century world. The way military investigations and espionage work today is vastly different from the early Jack Reacher books. With Andrew Child as the sole author of the next novels, Jack Reacher will be fully committed to the contemporary era, as Andrew Child is ready and willing to distinguish himself and his Jack Reacher era from the past.

Lee Child’s departure will take some getting used to, but there’s little chance that Jack Reacher will lose its popularity. With Reacher season 5 and Neagley season 2 in the works at Prime Video, it’s clear that the screen adaptations of the books will continue being some of the best-performing action TV shows for the streaming service. Lee Child paved the way for the franchise’s current success, but it will be Andrew Child who ensures that it never goes away.

Chain Reaction is available for purchase Andrew Child Is Ready To Take.
