Carlo Ancelotti insists Endrick is “going to be important in this World Cup” for Brazil, despite not featuring in their opening game.

Endrick was an unused substitute as Brazil drew 1-1 with Morocco, with Igor Thiago starting the fixture before being replaced by Matheus Cunha.

Although Endrick did not score in his six appearances during World Cup qualifying, he netted the winner against Egypt in Brazil’s final warm-up game before their opener against Morocco.

The 19-year-old has scored four goals in 17 appearances for the Selecao, and ahead of their second group game against Haiti, Ancelotti has urged calm around the teenager’s minutes.

“I’ll put Endrick in at the right time. We have to wait a little. He’s going to be important in this World Cup,” said Ancelotti.

“Matheus Cunha is more of a link-up player, he has more attacking midfielder quality than a target man, which is what Igor Thiago has. He’s a target man in the box, strong in duels, very aggressive in winning the ball back.

“Endrick is neither one nor the other. Endrick is something else. For me, personally, Endrick is an extraordinary talent. Brazil will take advantage of his qualities in this World Cup and also in the next one.

“He is patient, not in a hurry, and very mature for his age. That’s a very important aspect. His family, who are close to him, is also very patient. That’s important for a young person.”

Brazil and Haiti will meet at the World Cup for the first time. Their three previous encounters all produced a Brazil victory, with the Selecao scoring 17 goals and conceding only one.

This match will feature the largest gap between two teams in terms of FIFA World Ranking in this year’s group stages, with 78 places separating Brazil (6th) and Haiti (84th).

However, Brazil will once again be without Neymar, who will not even travel with the squad to Philadelphia as he nurses a calf injury.
