Ambrose Alli University to cancel final-year students’ exams over ‘wild jubilation’

The management of Ambrose Alli University, AAU, Ekpoma, Edo State, has banned wild jubilation by graduating students after the completion of their final examinations.

The university threatened to cancel the examinations of any student who fails to comply with the directive.

The Registrar of the institution, Mrs Oluwayomi O. Agbebaku, disclosed this in a statement dated September 16, 2026, and addressed to all Deans, Heads of Departments, HoDs, and students.

The statement is titled, ‘Prohibition of Wild Jubilation as Second Semester Examinations for 2025/2026 Academic Session Ends’.

Agbebaku listed activities that amounted to wild jubilation to include vehicle, motorcycle or bicycle parades, pouring of water, sand and drinks, consumption of alcohol, shouting, hooting, dancing, and other unhealthy activities that may lead to illegal behaviour and criminal activities.

The university also prohibited the use of the vicinity of the Administrative Building for motorcades.

The statement read in part, “This is to inform members of the University community, graduating students in particular, and the student body in general that the extant Senate policy against wild jubilation/celebrations within and outside the University campus during or after examinations is still in force.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the University Management has further placed a total ban on any form of wild jubilation/celebration.

“Anybody caught embarking on the above unnecessary and unwholesome practice within and outside the University premises would be sanctioned according to the enabling laws of the University, and that may include the cancellation of such examination(s),” the university said.

The management, however, enjoined graduating students to look forward to celebrating their graduation during the next university convocation ceremony.

The statement also reminded all deans and HODs of the extant laws prohibiting wild jubilation by graduating students, urging them to advise their students on the implications of non-compliance with the policy.
