Alto’s 12U softball team earns regional championship, state runner-up

The 12U Alto Lady Jackets softball team earned the title of state runner-ups in the Diamond Youth Softball State Championship. The tournament was conducted July 2 and 3 in Lear Park in Longview.

The Lady Jackets won their first state tournament game against Blanco 15-1. The win was followed by losses to Atlanta, 6-1 and 12-0, earning Alto the state runner-up spot.

Members of the team are Kamora Elam, Abbie Griffin, TeAsia Griffin, Macee Low, Kyndall Lucas, Cambrie Reagans, Amaya Reescano, Marlee Reid, Remi Reid, Emma Rowley and Journi Skinner.

The team was led by coaches Charley Reid, Lauren Reid and Cord Lucas.

The 12Y Alto Lady Jackets became the undefeated South Region Champions after defeating four competitors: Splendora, 2-1; Dayton, 7-1; Shelby County, 6-2; and Hemphill, 7-4.

The team had advanced to the regional tournament by defeating Rio Vista, 13-1 and Frankston, 13-0, at the District 6 Championship tournament.

The 15U Alto Lady Jackets earned the spot as Regional Runner-up and are displaying their tournament finalists rings.

The Association’s 15U Alto Lady Jackets also went to the regional tournament where they finished as the South Regional Runner-up. The team beat Anauac 22-2; Rusk 12-0, Troup, 15-2 and Huffman, 12-0, but lost to Livingston, 0-4; and Tri Cities, 0-4.

They had advanced to regional competition as the District 6 Champions after beating Kemp 17-0 and 15-2.

The 15U Alto Lady Jackets include Jareny Contreras, Alli Dowling, Leila Elam, Janiah Griffin, ShaKiyah Griffin, Alaiah Hackett, Makenzie Low, Tanasja Mitchell, JaLah Skinner, Karrington Skinner, Kennidi Skinner and Cheyenne Wilkerson.

Serving as coaches were Aaron Low, Stancy Skinner, Mike Hackett and Demarcus Griffin.
