After Argentina farewell: Cristiano Ronaldo gets in touch with Messi

There were probably very few dry eyes as Lionel Messi played his final game in an Argentina shirt. One of the greatest, if not THE greatest, has now bid a final farewell to international football.

Cristiano Ronaldo made sure to leave a few warm words for his longtime sporting rival. Under Messi’s Instagram post announcing his farewell to the Argentina national team, the Portuguese star wrote:

“Leo, many years of representing your country and a legacy that will last forever. All my respect for what you have achieved with Argentina. A warm embrace.”

Ronaldo himself has also faced questions in recent days about retiring from international football. For CR7, however, things have been less harmonious, and nothing is final yet. After leaving the team’s training camp during the international break, Ronaldo announced that he would remain available for Portugal despite the friction with national team coach Jorge Jesus.
