AFCON 2027 qualifiers: Results of Match Day 1 fixtures

The 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series began on Thursday evening across the continent.

Ghana opened their campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Ivory Coast.

Brighton midfielder, Malick Yalcouyé opened the scoring just before half-time, before the Elephants sealed victory thanks to Franck Kessié’s calmly taken penalty.

Cameroon thrashed Comoros 3-1.

The Indomitable Lions found the breakthrough with David Roy Nyengue’s header in the 39th minute.

Manchester United’s Bryan Mbeumo made it 2-0 in the 48th minute, before Comoros fought back just three minutes later with a free-kick goal.

But Cameroon put the result beyond doubt in the 81st minute when Namaso found the back of the net.

Tunisia played out a disappointing 1-1 draw with Uganda, while DR Congo defeated Equatorial Guinea 2-0.
